ISCYRA District 2 Annual Meeting

Meeting called to order at 1035 hrs.

 

  1. Read minutes from the 2006 District Meeting.
    This item was dispensed with due to the minutes not being available at this time.

  2. Review of the 2006 Sailing season.
    John MacCausland won the District Championship (Blue Star) for the 15th time.
    Mark Oberg won the Novice Championship (Green Star)
    Bob Oberg won the CBYRA High Point Championship
    Bert Collins was awarded the D2 Travelin’ trophy for attending the most District 2 events this year.  (Bert was actually tied with Sam Hopkins who relinquished the trophy after holding it for the past year.)   
    Overall there were 37 eligible boats, 18 of which competed in four or more events, with Collins and Hopkins topping the list with 7 events apiece.

  3. Review and Finalize the 2007 Sailing season and District Championships.
    The 2007 District Championship will be sailed at the Miles River Yacht Club on Oct 13-14.   This will be a 2nd District qualifying event for the 2008 World Championships in Miami FL.   MacCausland, Vosbury and Collins conducted a lengthy discussion on the importance of high attendance at this event in order to qualify everyone who would like to attend the ’08 Worlds in Miami.
    - The primary method of qualifying to the Worlds is through your local fleet’s elimination series. 
    - If you do not qualify through the fleet you may also qualify via your District Championships -  you must finish in the top half at the Districts in order to meet consideration for World’s qualification. 
    - Skippers that have already qualified through their fleets are not considered in the Districts qualification.  
    - If we can field 21-25 entries to the District’s we will be allowed to qualify 4 additional boats as District entries.
    - If we can field 26-30 we will be allowed to qualify 5 additional boats.
    - Entries will be required to qualify for the District Championships as per Star Class rule 26 Eligibility. Entries will be due 7 days prior to the day of the first races as per Star Class rule 28.2.


  4. Announcement of the Inter-District Events – Tri District Championship
    The Tri District championship will consist of the following regattas:
    Sunapee Open – Aug 4-5 -  Lake Sunapee NH(D12)
    Bedford Pitcher – Sep 8-9 -  Westport CT (D1)
    Star/Etchells Fall – Oct 27-28 – Annapolis MD  (D2)

  5. Fleet reports

    Annapolis Fleet (AN)
    Jack Lynch was awarded US Sailing’s John F. Gardiner Jr. Trophy for One Design Service is awarded each year by US SAILING for ongoing distinguished service and leadership in the promotion of one design sailing and class organization.
    The AN Fleet has 4 new boats, bringing the total of active boats to 20.
     Bob Oberg won the AN fleet championship.
    AN Fleet members competed in a number of events outside D2 this year including events in Districts 1, 12, and 20. 

    Mid Eastern Shore Fleet  (MES)
    Bob Flower reports 20 active members, 13 associate members, and 4 supporting.
    And a total of 19 boats.
    They averaged 12 boats on the line for heir popular Wednesday night series.
    Notable mention was made of the MES Christmas party.
    A discussion was led by Sam Hopkins regarding getting more of the MES boats to participate regularly outside of their home waters.  A number of concerns and conflicts were discussed including the log canoes racing schedules and trailer mobility.

    Cooper River (CR)
    status quo

    As no other fleets were represented, there are no further fleet reports.

  6. New Business
    - It is determined that the AN fleet will host the 2008 D2 Meeting.
        Time and location TBD.
    -  Barbara Vosbury requests a volunteer to take over the D2 webmaster duties.      After some discussion (and little volunteering) Kris Wilson agrees to take on   these chores.
    - Vosbury and Collins will complete their second term as District Secretaries in Dec 2007. 
    All fleets should field and nominate appropriate candidates for this role to be added to the ballot in Dec.  
    Vosbury/Collins will not be continuing for another term.
    -  John MacCausland thanked Vosbury and Collins for their time spent as   Secretary and Asst Secretary for District 2.
    -  Sam Hopkins made a motion to adjourn - seconded by Kris Wilson.
    -  Meeting adjourned at 1130 hrs.
