Minutes of 2003 2D District
Star Class Meeting
18 January 2003
The meeting was called to order at the Miles River
Yacht Club. Thanks to the MES Fleet for hosting the meeting
The MES Fleet reported that Bob Bradford is Fleet Captain and Joe Balderson is the Fleet Secretary. They adopted Fleet By-Laws
and their fleet has grown to almost 20 boats. They will be sponsoring a new
weekend regatta starting this year that will be discussed with the Schedule.
The AN Fleet reported that Elliott Oldak will remain as Fleet Captain with Barbara Vosbury and Bert Collins
backing him up as co-Fleet Secretaries. They have 5 new members this year with
one boat lost to the MES Fleet.
The CB Fleet reported that Tom Price will remain as Fleet Captain with Wil Wagner as Fleet Secretary. They have lost a couple of
boats for this year.
John MacCausland reported that the CR Fleet maintained status quo.
The NCB Fleet has lost one boat but continues to be
very active both in HDG and on the Bay.
We began to discuss the current political situation
in the Class. John
MacCausland reported
on the IGC conference call that said basically to let ISAF do their own thing and not award the Gold Star for the Combined
Championship. It is the opinion that the Class President will attempt to award
the trophy anyway. There is a lot of discord in the Class and the European vs US and amateur's vs pro's
arguments are going on.
The next item for discussion was the Blue Star. MRYC
is willing to hold it again and TAYC may be a possibility. Much discussion
ensued and it was decided that June 7-8 was the best weekend for the event. EYC
has made a formal request to host the event on the weekend of 6\28-29 with no
Keelboat Regatta.
The Tri District series was the next item on the
agenda. The 1st District event will be the Nutmegs, the 12th District event
will be the Sunapee Open and the 2nd District event will be the Fall Windup.
The District Officers will work out the details and report back.
Our schedule is finished except for the District
Championship. The MES Fleet and MRYC will be hosting a new regatta this year on
May 3-4. HDGYC has canceled their One Design Regatta due to poor attendance.
WRSC will support the Michelob Cup.
Barbara Vosbury brought up the point that the class would like us to
use Java Score to submit results and John Jenkins will begin to use it on the website.
District Winner's for the year were John MacCausland/Sean Delaney-District
Champion; John Vanderhoff/Rowan Perkins-Second and Barbara Vosbury/Trapper Lippincott-Third. John Vanderhoff
was the CBYRA High Point Champion, Barbara Vosbury was second and Elliott Oldak was third. The AN Fleet Champion was Aaron Serinis. The MES Fleet Champion was John Jenkins. The NCB Fleet Champion was John Vanderhoff.
The winner of the District Secretary's Travelin'
Trophy was Barbara
Vosbury and Trapper
Lippincott with Bert
Collins/Guy Avellon second and an honorable mention to Sam Hopkins who attended 8 regattas this year.
The meeting was adjourned and the MRYC served dinner
to the attendees. Kudos to Barbara Vosbury for organizing the meeting and Bert Collins and his production company for the
DVD of 2002 racing.
