In late November, the Star Class lost two prominent members. Mary
Etchells, the only woman to be a Star Class World Champion,
died
in Maryland, USA, and Mario
Caprile, recipient of the class'
highest award, the Harry Nye Trophy, passed away in Spain.
ISCYRA president Bill Allen announced at the class meeting at the North
American Championship in Miami that John M. MacCausland is the 2006
recipient of the Harry Nye trophy.
Allen and John Koopman have also provided an overview of the ISAF
meeting in Finland in early November.
The 2006
ballot for class commodores and vice-commodores and one rules
resolution can be downloaded from the website. Votes must be sent to
the class office by Dec. 10th.
The list
of 2007 championships can be found on the fixture list page
of the website calendar. In March are both the South
American (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Western
Hemisphere (Tampa, Florida, USA) Championships, followed in
April
by the Eastern
Hemispheres in El Arenal Mallorca, Spain.
November Racing Results
2006
North American Championship
Hamish Peeper and Carl Williams continued from
their 2006 Star World's victory to another win at Miami in the 2006
Star North Americans. The 2nd and 3rd teams also remained the same as
at the Worlds with Robert Scheidt/Bruno Prada
(2nd) and Xavier Rohart/Pascal Rambeau (3rd).
European Results
In Switzerland, Martin
Ingold and D. Bischoff won the Lebkuchenregatta.
In France, Jacques Puissegur/Charton won the Fiamma
Forever sailed in Nice. In Italy, Peer Wilhelm and Nils
Hollweg won the Trofeo
Costa Blu on Lago di Garda.
North
American Results
The Schoonmaker
Cup in Miami, sailed this year as a prelude to the North
American Championship, was won by Peter Bromby and Bill McNiven..
