Announcements Class officers and commodores for 2012 were re-elected at the annual meeting with the exception that Doug Smith has retired after eight years as Class Treasurer. The class thanks him for his years of service to the Stars and welcomes Robert Collins who will be taking his position. The one resolution on the ballot regarding material for masts and booms passed and district officers were elected. These Silver Star events are qualifiers for the 2012 Worlds in May at Hyeres, France. The European Centennial Celebration in October at St. Tropez, France had 93 boats from 13 countriescompeting. Fredrik Loof and Max Salminen (SWE), Diego Negri and Enrico Voltolini (ITA) and Robert Stanjek and Frithjof Kleen (GER) were the top three. At the Southern Hemisphere Championship in Brazil, Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada topped the field of 12 boats. In November in Tampa, Florida, George Szabo and Mark Strube become the 2011 North American Champions. In December, 41 teams from 22 countries competed in the World Championship in Perth, Australia. Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada (BRA) won their second Star World championship, having won also in 2007.. Robert Stanjek and Frithjof Kleen (GER) were second and, Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih (USA) finished third. At this event eleven countries qualified for the 2012 Olympics - Brazil, USA, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Norway, France, Canada, Ireland, Portugal and Switzerland, as well as the host country, Great Britain. European Results Switzerland: The overall Swiss Championship for 2011 (a combination of five events) was won by Stefan Zlot and Ronald Roeseler. The Basler Laeggerli regatta winners were Martin Ingold and Rolf Eigenmann, and Hans Stockli and Urs Spahr won the Zuercher Herbstpreis Austria: Albert Sturm and Tobias Haring won the Wodi Wodi on the Attersee. Finland: Heikki Pulsa and Jori Kaunisto were the winners of the Season Finale - GP8 sailed at Helsinki. France: At Nice, Jean Gabriel Charton and Olivier Terrol, won Acciuga's Pride and the Dr.. Evil Trophy. Sailing with Nathan Babonneau, Charton also won the Upstart Invitation. The winners of the 55th Nice Christmas Regatta, last race of the 2011 season, were Daniel and Beat Stegmeier. In Paris, the Pinatel Trophy was won by Guillaume Rolland and Laurent Le Deuff. The overall French Champion for 2011 (combined results of three events) is Philippe Courteaud who sailed with Noel Roland LeBerre. Germany: Johannes Polgar and Markus Koy won the international German Championship / Travemuender Woche and the Lawuse Preis / West-Ost Preis. Heiko Winkler and Uwe Thielemann were the best at the Senatspreis. Netherlands: Guus Bierman and Robert Jan Staartjes won the last event of the Dutch racing season, the Boerenkool Cup . Italy: At Castellato di Brenzone, Hubert Merkelbach and Gerrit Bartel won the 45th Trofeo Amicizia. At Viareggio, the Campionato d'Autunno winners were Raffaello Astorri and Alessandro Vongher, the top sailors at the 5th Trofeo Francesco Sargentini were Antonio Balderi and Amerigo Anguillesi, and Roberto Righi and Davide Bortoletto won the Campionato d'Inverno. Ukraine:Denis Khaschchyna and Dmitriy Mechetin were the winners of the Sebastopol Christmas Race North American Results USA: At Tampa, Florida, the Schoonmaker Cup was sailed immediately before the North American Championship and won by George Szabo and Mark Strube . At Miami, Brian Cramer and Cameron Lymburner won the Commodores Cup On the Chesapeake Bay John MacCausland and Mike Zuschnit won both the Tred Avon YC Fall Roundup and the Miles River YC Shuster Regatta. At Annapolis, Peter McChesney took the Etchells Star Fall Regatta. Canada: At Vancouver, Steve Fleckenstein won the English Bay Fleet Championship / October Regatta South American Results: Argentina: Julio Labandeira and Hernan Celedoni have had a good spring, winning the XXXI Grand Prix Luis Alberto Cerrato, the District Championship and International Olivos Week . Daniel Della Torre and Julian Gazari won the Dubini Cup . Brazil: Alessandro Pascolato and Henry Boening won both the Taca Alberto Ravazzano and the Taca Royal Thames while Lars Grael and Samuel Goncalves won the Campeonato Estadual . ![]() |
