director Barbara Beigel Vosbury has provided an update
for June encouraging entries for
the Eastern
Hemisphere Championship in
Helsinki and also for a new regatta, the Bacardi
Newport in Newport, Rhode
Island, USA. She also has
an
historical look at Stars in New York City in the 1930s. Starting June 7 is the 2011 Western Hemisphere Championship at Springfield, Illinois, USA., and coming up is the 2011 European Championship in September at Dublin, Ireland. The Centennial cake to the left was made by Ms. Zsofia Csande for the Hungarian Centennial Events.
Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada continued their winning ways at the ISAF World Cup series with another first place at the Delta Lloyd Regatta (their third) and remain the Star Class World Cup leaders after four events. They are followed by Robert Stanjek / Frithjof Kleen in second and Andrew Campbell / Ian Coleman in third. The World Cup continues at Weymouth / Portland, UK with the ongoing Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta. Ukraine and Hungary celebrated the 100th birthday of the Star class with a series of regattas. At Sevastopol, Ukraine, Denis Khaschyna and Sergiy Calchenko won the Eastern Ukraine fleet championship which was followed by the Spring Championship of Ukraine with the winners being Andrii Golovanov and Oleksandr Mosiaszenko. At Kiev, the Windmaster Regatta - Ukrainian Centennial top sailors were Ivan Chekhlaty and Sergey Timokhov. In Hungary, the first of three regattas was the Hungarian Masters and 100 Year Oldies Championship. For the Masters event the skipper had to be over 50 years old. For the 100 Years Oldies, the skipper and crew age combined needed to be at least 100. Gabor Bankuty and Gyorgy Galantha won both divisions. Arpad Bokay and Sandor Ember had the highest combined number of years for a crew at 150. Next was the Centennial Regatta won by Pavlo Bondar and Mykola Dmytrenko of Ukraine. The sailing week was completed with the 17th District Championship won by Austrians Hans Spitzauer and Adi Luzlbauer. Northern Germany celebrated the class centennial with a special edition of the Erich F. Laeisz Preis at Hamburg. Winners were Felix Gold and Olivier Vitzthum and the "veterans" division was won by Hans-Juergen Bense and Herbert Braasch. The Austrian Championship, sailed in conjunction with the Graf Lodron Preis, was taken by Walter Passegger and Martin Kropfitsch. Winning the Graf Lodron Preis (first four races of the event) were Josef Urban and Andreas Steinkogler. In Finland, Joni Leeve and Asko Salminen won their sailing season opener, the HSK Star Race. Jesper and Tom Sundman won the next event, the Suunto Cup. In Switzerland, the Star Trophy Morges was sailed at Thun and won by Jean Pascal Chatagny and Patric Ducommun. In Italy, Fredrik Loof and Max Salminen won the Olympic Garda Eurolymp. The Trofeo Emilio Benetti, sailed at Viagerrio, was won by Piero Poggi and Corsi. At Nice, France, the Coppa Ribalda was taken by Italians Giovanni Coppo and Mauro Polti. North America At San Diego, California, George Szabo won the Rollins Bowl. At Marina del Rey, the Cal Race Week regatta was won by Alejandro Bugacov. At Gull Lake, Michigan, the 58th Tulip Tune Up winners were Todd Gay and Darin Jensen. And at Annapolis, Maryland, John MacCausland and John Avis were the winners of the Lippincott Memorial. South America In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Daniel Wilcox and Fernando Ilha won the Copa Outono ICRJ. |
