Class Announcements:
Class President Bill Allen reports from the ISAF mid-year meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia that despite great efforts by many Star sailors, the Star Class will not be part of the 2016 Olympics. The ISAF release outlines the classes that will be included in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Executive director Barbara Beigel Vosbury has provided an update for May about the spring and summer months activities for the Star Class.  Next championships will be the 2011 Western Hemisphere Championship in early June at Springfield, Illinois, USA., the 2011 Eastern Hemisphere Championship in July at Helsinki, Finland and the 2011 European Championship in September at Dublin, Ireland.

April-May Racing Results

Europe  
The first ISAF World Cup to be sailed this year in Europe was held at Mallorca, Spain, the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia MAPFRE, won by Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson. Closely following was the second European World Cup, the 43rd Semaine Olympique Francaise., wuth the winners being Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada. Including the results from the earlier American World Cup, the Miami Rolex OCR, the Star Class leaders after three 2011 events have been sailed are Scheidt and Prada, followed by Andrew Campbell / Ian Coleman in second and George Szabo / Mark Strube in third.

In Germany, the District 13 Championship / Heinz-Nixdorf-Pokal was sailed at Moehnsee-Delecke and won by Alexander Hagen and Marko Hasche. Felix Gold and Walter Baudisch won the Spring Trophy sailed at Yachtclub Ruhrland Essen. Gold returned to win the Star Cup sailed on the Kellersee, partnering with Oliver Vitzthum. On the Bodensee, Stefan Schneider and  Uli Seeberger won the Hammond Perkin. On the Starnberger See, Walter and Xavier Soellner were first at the MarinePool SuperCup and Axel Hampe and Christian Conrad won the Fruehlingspreis on the Ammersee.

In Switzerland,  Hubert Merkelbach and Gerit Bartel took the Bodenseemeisterschaft.  The Thunersee Osterregatte winners were Martin Ingold and Dario Bischoff, and the Fruhlingspreis Colomba Cup Ruf Club Cup at Zurich was won by Hans Stockli and Urs Spahr.

In Italy, the first race of the 2011 Coppa Itallia Series, the Casino Cup, was won by Diego Negri and Enrico Voltolino. In Viareggio,
Daniele and Davide Mugaini won the PDV Fleet Championship and Paolo Insom and Silvio Dell'Innocenti were top boat at the Coppa di Pasqua. At Trieste, Marco Augelli and Emanuele LaPorta won the 26th Tito Nordio Cup.

At Nice, France, the 14th Raid Zob El Bahr victors were Fabrice Dot and Olivier Vallone. Asteria's Tchatche winners were Julia and Graham Bailey.

In The Netherlands,  Mark de Haas and Erik Veldhuizen won the International Easter Regatta.

North America

On the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, Donald Massey won the Annapolis Spring Regatta and Bert Collins and Jake Doyle were first at the Miles River YC Spring Regatta. On the west coast at Olympia, Washington, Derek DeCouteau and Linda Koran won the Black Star Regatta.

At Marina del Rey, California, Rick Peters and Guillaume Rassi won the California Yacht Club Spring Keelboat regatta.

South America
The Brazilan champions in the Star Class for 2011 are Lars Grael and Renato Poura, and Sergio Goretkin Jr. and Fermando Ilha won the Taca Comodoro ICRJ.  In Argentina, Julio Labandeira and Hernan Celedoni won the 84th Aniversario Yacht Club Olivos.
