The 2008
South American Championship is the first ISCYRA
event next year on January 3-8 in Angra-Dos-Reis, Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, followed by the 2008
Worlds in Miami, USA April 7-18, and the Western
Hemisphere Championship in Geneva, New York, USA on May 18-23.
2008 for 2009
Resolutions are due 12 December 2007. Forms and information are
available online.
And ballots
for class officers have been mailed and are also online.
These are due at the class office by December 10.
There is a new fleet on Lake Ontario, Canada. The Western
Lake Ontario (WLOC) fleet has been formed.
The Star Class Commodore, Sir
Durward Knowles of the Bahamas, recently had his 90th birthday.
Sir Durward is a Worlds Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist.
2012 Olympics
At the ISAF meeting in Portugal, the men's keelboat
class was chosen to be part of the 2012 Olympics in Great
Britain. The choice of boat by ISAF
for that class will be made in November 2008. A viewpoint
on Olympic sailing is provided by Chris Ericksen who is a
principal race officer at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in California.,
2008 LOG
The Star Class Log is being formatted now. Please send any results
which are not already on the Star Class website that you wish to be
included in the Log to webmaster@starclass.org
along with photos of regatta winners and outstanding sailing visuals.
Results presently on the class website will be part of the Log.
Late October - November Racing
Results
On Lago di Garda in Italy, the Trofeo
Best Wind Shop was won by Diego Negri and Luigi
Viale.
In Switzerland, the Sigi
Meier Memorial winners were Henrik Dannesboe and
Claus Lauritsen. The
Ruf
Rasta Cup was won by Hans Stoeckli and Axel Erbe,
and the Lebkuchen
II victors were Markus and Kurt Scheidegger.
In Germany, the UB
Fleet Championship (determined from the
results of the individual races of the Bodensee Championship, the
Hammond-Perkin Trophy and the Unterseepokal) was taken by last year's
winner
Hubert Merkelbach.
At Nice, France the winter season has started. The
Acciuga
con cioccolate regatta winners were Andrea Orlando
and Alessandro
Ciocchi. First at the Blue
Lagoon Bath was Jacques Puissegur with
Jean-Gabriel Charton, and Homer's
Odyssey was won by Olivier Godefroy /
Dominique Giorgi. At Paris, the 27th
Pinatel Trophy winners were Thierry de la Villehuchet and
Carroll McCallum from Central Long Island Sound,
USA.
In the USA, the first race of the Miami, USA 2007-2008 season,
the Schoonmaker
Cup, was won by Peter Bromby and Lee White. On the
Chesapeake Bay, Peter McChesney and Shane Zwingelberg won the last 2007
Star race, the Star
/Etchells Fall Regatta.
In Brazil, Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada were repeat winners of
the Taca
Royal Thames - Brazilian Championship, and
Chile's first Star
National Champions are Pablo
Gimeno and Robert Riegel.
