Class
Announcements The European Centennial Celebration will be at St. Tropez, France on October 20 - 23. One hundred and ten boats from sixteen countries have entered with the registrations now closed . Class championships coming up later in the year are the Southern Hemisphere Championship in Brazil in late October, the North American Championship in Florida in November, and the World Championship in Perth, Australia in December. For dates of class championships for 2012 and beyond please consult this list. or the online version. Nomination forms are available for 2012 class officers from International Vice President through District Secretaries. These need to be returned to the class office by Oct. 20. Resolutions on rule changes that will be voted on at the annual meeting in Tampa, Florida during the North American Championship will be published October 4 on the class website..
The 2011 European Championship was sailed at Dublin, Ireland in strong winds for five days of racing followed by a last race in light and shifty winds.. Diego Negri and Enrico Voltolini led from start to finish to win the silver star. Centennial Events The North American Centennial Regatta returned to the birthplace of the Star boat, Long Island Sound, New York. The first two days of racing were taken over by the woodies and classics (boats under #7300). The woodies class was won by Andrew Ivey and Mike Nichol sailing #4748, and the classics winners were Robert Krahulik and Chris Rogers. In the large Open Centennial racing fleet, Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih won with a perfect score for the six races - all firsts with their drop race being a second place. District 17 held their centennial celebration in conjunction with the Kronprinz Rupprecht Preis at Munich, Germany. Winning the event were Werner Fritz and Uli Seeberger. District Championships Five district championships were sailed in the late summer. In North America, Tim Seeling and Jon Kidder won the District 21 Championship sailed at Lake Dillon, Colorado and Dave Watt and Dave Martin are this year's District 6 Champions, sailing at Vancouver, British Columbia. Jon VanderMolen and Kyle Wilhelm took the District 4 Championship, which was sailed at Gull Lake, Michigan. In Europe, Xavier Rohart and Vincent Hagin won the District 9 Championship and Urnerseetrophy at Brunnen, Switzerland, and Philip Carlson and Benjamin Peterson became the District 10 and Swedish Champions at Lidkoping, Sweden. European Results Austria: The Freundschaftsregatta, sailed on the Woerthersee, was won by Roberto Tomasini Grinover and Gunnar Bahr. The pair returned to win the Carinthia Cup on the same body of water. The Fallkenstein Trophy which took place on the Wolfgangsee, went to Florian Felzmann and Martin Lux. Finland: Stefan Winqvist and Olle Totterman were the winners of the Musto Classic Regatta sailed at Helsinki. France: Summer racing continued at Nice. The Dot's N' Dot's regatta was won by Jean Gabriel Charton and Andrea Orlando while Olivier Godefroy and Dominique Giorgi were first overall at Homer Revenge. Germany: Tim Elsner and Marco Grasse took the Bahnwaerter Preis sailed at Hamburg. In Munich, Bennu Seeger and Michael Schulz won the 50th Oktoberfestregatta with a fleet of 68 boats. Great Britain: The practice event for the 2012 Olympics, the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta, sailed at the site of those upcoming Games, was won by Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada. Italy: At Viareggio. the Coppa di Mezza Estate was won by Roberto Righi and Davide Bortoletto and Daniele and Davide Mugnaini were the top boat at the Trofeo Carlo Gianotti. The Numana Regatta winners were Massimo Canali and Lattuada, and the Trofeo Lillia, sailed at Musso, was won by Ferdinando Colaninno and Leone Rocca. The 2011 Coppa Italia overall title - which included five regattas - San Remo (Casino Cup), Viareggio (Benetti), Scarlino, Bracciano, Numana - went to Paolo Massserdotti and Massimiliano Tassini . Netherlands: The Dutch Open Champions are Marc Blees and Joost Houweling. North American Results USA: John MacCausland, sailing with Rick Burgess, won both the Lake Sunapee Open in New Hampshire and the Bedford Pitcher at Westport, Connecticut. At Rockport, Massachusetts, the Ned Hay winners were Tomas and Luis Hornos. Bert Collins and Jake Doyle won the Nutmeg Regatta at Milford, Connecticut and the Chili Regatta winners were Hans Fogh and Dave Caesar, sailing at Seneca Lake, New York. The Al Henning Regatta was held on Lake Michigan and won by Jeff Schaefer and Al Walker. The Lake Michigan season long Kaiser Kasabian Memorial Series (May 25 to Sept. 11) was won by Chris and Mickey Nielson. At Coloma, Michigan, the Paw Paw Lake Open winners were Donald Massey and Kyle McVane. On the Chesapeake Bay, the Miles River Yacht Club Green Star, American Red Cross Regatta was sailed at St. Michaels, Maryland and won by Andrew Parish and Rich Hoff. The 80th Tred Avon Yacht Club Lipton Cup at Oxford, Maryland was taken by Bert Collins and Jake Doyle. In Colorado, Hans Bucher was the winner of the 2011 Dillon Open. And in Washington state, Dave and Sue Branch were first at the Budd Inlet Fall Star Regatta at Olympia. Canada: At Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, Quebec, Brian Cramer and Rick Burgess won the Montreal Open. South America Brazil At Paranoa, Admar Gonzaga and Alexandre Freitas won the XII Campronato da Flotilha Paranoa and Lars Grael, sailing with Renato Moura, took the Campeonato do DF (1a Etapa).
