President's Message
Dear Fellow Star Class members,
Summer is here and Star sailing is in full swing in the Northern Hemisphere. There is nothing better than enjoying a day on the water sailing with family or friends in the greatest one design sailboat of all time. In August I will race the North American Championship in Newport Beach with my son Danny. The time we spend together in the Star always gives us great memories.
The European Championship in Attersee just finished. While the conditions on the water were challenging the shoreside organization by the Attersee fleet and Union Yacht Club could not have been better. July 3-6 will see the Eastern Hemisphere Championship at Eckernfoerde Yacht Club in northern Germany. Usually plenty of wind there!
This fall San Diego will host the World. This is the 9th time San Diego has hosted the Star World Championship. Legends of the Class, Malin Burnham, and Dennis Conner, will be honored during events at the Worlds, not to be missed.
Operationally, the class is doing very well. We continue to fine-tune our agreements with our host clubs while providing more services. Financially we are in great shape due to your timely attention in paying your dues. Thank you for that critical support!

Paul Cayard
ad Interim President, ISCYRA

SEA Program Update
The SEA program has enjoyed a fantastic spring and entry into the summer. The program has seen a lot of interest and continued enthusiasm, of which we are very grateful to see and hear. We strongly believe that this is a great way to give to the class, foster growth and build upon the community that we all love so much in the Star Class.
A few highlights include:
- Supporting 4 U30 teams at the Western Hemisphere’s hosted by Biscayne Bay YC, in April
- Adding Kilian Weise to the SEA Committee
- Sending 4 boats to the West Coast of the USA for this summer’s major events
We are thrilled to see the general success and enjoyment of the round table discussions that were held during the late winter/early spring events being carried on during this summer’s events. The goal of the SEA Program is to be able to facilitate initiatives that we believe are impactful and hope that they will continue with our support or on their own with your initiatives. We hope to develop more initiatives in the near future and implement them around the world. More to come as we develop new opportunities.
Charter Opportunity!
We sent a few boats to San Diego for the summer events and some are still available for charter. The brief offering is the following: the SEA program is offering the use of these boats for $3,500 per team. There will be free boat storage between the NAs and Worlds, discounted entry fees may be available for U30 teams to both events. You will be responsible for insuring the boat for the duration of your usage, transportation of yourself and partner, sails if you need them, and general maintenance of the boat you use.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this offer, please email with any questions, which events you would like to use a boat for, and will let you know if you have been granted a boat.
Hope to see you on the water soon,
The SEA Committee

2024 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2024 Star European Championship started with the best intentions in Attersee, Austria. To celebrate the local Fleet 75th anniversary, Union Yacht Club Atterse, had organize not one, but two events leading to the European Championship, that took place from June 5th to the 9th. Well, we have to say, that unfortunately, it didn't take place, because due to very adverse weather conditions, not one race was concluded, and the 60 teams competing in Attersee, went back home with a few starts, one race attempt abandoned at the first weather mark and another one abandoned at the gate.
But the teams, coming from as far as Argentina and USA, actually went home with lots of good memories, as the Yacht Club, the Star Fleet, and the people there, especially Adi Luzbauer, offered a wonderful hospitality and had organized amazing evening gatherings, and the people at the yacht club made everyone feel welcome and at home, for the long (very long and unfruitful) waits ashore.
The weel before the Europeans the 17th District was sailed, with just one day of racing, and the winner are the Croatian Marin Misura with Tonko Barac, who will go with many, to the Eastern Hemisphere at the beginning of July and then at the Star World Championship in San Diego in September.
