2015 Bacardi Cup
March 2 - 8, 2015
Congratulations to the 2015 Bacardi Cup Champions, Lars Grael and Samuel Goncalves!
After a week full of near perfect Star sailing conditions, World Championship format races, and tight competition, reigning Bacardi Cup Champions International Star Class President Lars Grael and Samuel Goncalves (BRA 8474) triumphed over the fleet once again this year successfully defending their title at the 88th annual Bacardi Cup regatta.
The duo wrapped up the regatta with two race wins, the most notable of which was in Race 6, the final race of the series where Lars and Samuel closed a 4 point gap and stole the victory from fellow Brazilians Jorge Joao Zarif and Bruno Prada (BRA 8391).
Thank you to all of the event organizers, sponsors, and volunteers for running a great regatta and a special thank you to our close friends the Bacardi family and Bacardi Ltd. for keeping Star sailors well hydrated for the 88th year!

Faces Behind the Fleets
The focus of this new "Faces Behind the Fleets" segment is to give more recognition and appreciation to the International Star Class Fleet Officers who dedicate their time to serving the Class and have gone above and beyond the scope of their duties to maintain the values, traditions, and prestige of our special Star Boat and Class. Throughout the year, Fleet Officers will be featured individually to highlight them for their contributions and thank them for all of their hard work.
This eStarlights edition's "Faces Behind the Fleets" featured Fleet Officer is Richard Sears from Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. Check out his profile and a couple of excerpts from his interview below!

What do you consider the most difficult part of serving as a Fleet Officer?
“The most difficult task would be serving in such a mountainous fleet between Dillon and the front range of Colorado.”
Tell us your funniest Star Sailing moment/story.
“A funny story comes to mind (wasn't so funny then): on a windy day on Lake Dillon we were hit by a gust causing the boat to heal over taking on some water. With the rail in the water, the skipper, that would be me, slid right off the deck into the lake. For as tight as I could, I held on to the main sheet and the tiller while yelling for my crew to pull me back into the boat...which he did. And then we reached back to shore to dry out and go over the event to determine how it happened. For that I was awarded the title of swimming instructor.”
Tell us 3 interesting things we would be surprised to know about you.
“Here are 3 things one probably doesn’t know about me… well maybe:
- I like to play tennis
- I'm a retired Naval Officer
- I have a private pilot's licence”
