The International German Championship has just finished in Utting on lake Ammersee in the South of Germany, hosted by Augsburger Segel Club.
After four days of regatta with eight races completed and one discard, the 2018 German Champions are Class President Hubert Merkelbach with crew Markus Koy, who grabbed the leadership from the half Dutch and half German team of Thomas Allart with Killian Weise today in the final day; the third overall are Bernhard Seger (SUI) with Steffen Rutz (GER).
The conditions on the picturesque lake have been light to medium with a little more breeze on the last couple of days that were appreciated by the duo Merkelbach/Koy and brought them on the lead.
“We are very, very happy about our victory, in the beginning of the week it didn’t look so good for us as we were seventh after four races - declares Hubert Merkelbach at the end of the Championship - but then the wind increased in intensity, and it’s what me and Markus like, and we were please to conquer the leadership. This is my fourth German National title but every time feels special and different. Tonight we’re going to celebrate at the Oktoberfest and from tomorrow we’ll be back on the water to race at the traditional Oktoberfest regatta. We cannot wait!!”
