EVENT INFORMATION

2018 Tomahawk Regatta

and the 12th District Blue and Green Star Championship

Lake Hopatcong, N.J.

June 2 and 3

21 Stars, gathered for the combined Tomahawk and District
Blue and Green Star Championship, this breaks down to 10 Blue Stars, 7 Green
Stars and 4 Tomahawk entries. We had a wonderful breeze on both Saturday and
Sunday. Saturday the North, Northeast was lighter 5-8 knots and Sunday there
was a shift to the East, and became stronger at times 15-18 knots.

Day One Racing, three races on schedule:

Race one
saw, Ben Sternberg with a bullet just ahead of Peter Bromby for the Tomahawk
leg of regatta, and John Finch had a daily first for the Blue Fleet, just ahead
of Andy Ivey, and Abby White had a first in the Green Fleet just ahead of Bob
Restrick.

Race two
saw a shift of control to Bromby, who would hold that control to the end of
regatta. Also, seeing a shift in the Blue Fleet, Andy Ivey, jumped to a first
place finish, followed by World Famous Star Sailor, and all around good guy,
Rick Burgess, Sr and his grandson (10years old) Frankie Burgess (crewing in his
first district event), what a wonderful thing! Then the Green fleet too, saw a
change of leadership to Tom Flinn and his daughter Katie, getting a first
place. It is so warming seeing families sailing together!

Race three,
as we all know, will see Bromby take control and hold control at this point,
they say he drives a mean truck back home in Bermuda, the best I can tell, is
he drives well on Land or Sea, then, World Star Class Champion John MacCausland
was second. And many time Tomahawk winner. The Blue Fleet saw another change
for first place going to father son team of Rick Dhein and Clark Dhein,
followed closely by Andy Ivey and Bob Krahulik, and finally the Green Fleet,
who too saw another first place skipper Bob Restrick and Jeff Allen, and who
would become the next Green Star Champs.

Day Two Racing, two races scheduled:

Race four,
in a stronger Easterly breeze, Bromby and Grant Jeffrey. The Blue Fleet with
John Finch second in the Tomahawk and first in Blue Fleet would set the stage
for a battle with Andy Ivey for District Championship. The Green Fleet saw a
third skipper win a race, Fred Eagles and daughter Olivia Eagles, followed by
Bob Restrick, by this time the breeze had kept two boats onshore and 4 drop out
due to equipment failure etc.

Race five,
after the Fleet was thinned by weather conditions. Bromby and Jeffrey held
their own and took the Tomahawk Championship. The Blue Fleet was a little
closer contested, at the finish line, where John Finch and Mark Passmore were
able to hold off Andy Ivey and Bob Krahulik. Then the Green Fleet saw Fred
Eagles and daughter Olivia take their second first place finish, but not enough
points to get them their Green Star, as Bob Restrick and crew Jeff Allen win
their Green Star Championship.

Many thanks goes out to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club for a
job well done, to the Race Committee, they do were on their Game! Thanks! And
to the members of the club for housing
and socializing with the outsiders, Thanks! To all the Father daughter teams,
the daughter skipper, the Grandfather grandson team, what a long lasting memory
they will hold, thank you!

The 12th District annual meeting took place on Saturday June 2, 2018, at approximately 8;00am, on the front porch of LHYC. Fleets present Lake George, Sunapee, Lake Ontario (LOC), Seneca and Hopatcong.

Discussion was short, as there was no business other than talk of next years districts which is to Lake George, they will talk among their Club and decide course of action.
