ISCYRA Events Coming Up
The 2006 World Championship is the end of this month (Sept. 27 - Oct. 8) at San Francisco, USA. The entry list shows 74 boats from 26 countries.
The North American Championship will be November 14-19 in Miami, Florida, USA.
August ISCYRA Results:
The 2006 European Championship was won by Mark Mendelblatt and Mark Strube. The European Champions are Diego Negri and Luigi Viale who finished 4th overall. Reports on the racing were provided by Andy Horton/Brad Nichol and Andreas Kling for Rolex Baltic Week .
The first Olympic sailing test event for 2008 took place in Qingdao, China Aug. 21 - 30. Seven Teams from 5 countries took part with Andy Horton/Brad Nichol winning in the last race over Iain Percy/Steve Mitchell.
District Championship Results
The 4th District Championship was sailed at Wilmette Harbor, Illinois and won by Todd Gay and Pat Brewer. Photos of the racing were taken by Friedrich Elliott. The 6th District Championship winner (Vancouver, Canada) was world champion Carl Buchan sailing with his son Jaimie. Grandfather Bill (world champion and Olympic gold medalist) was third.
August European Results
Junior and senior sailors had their own regattas in August. The 100-Jährige 2006 (skipper and crew ages have to equal 100) was won by Manfred Belgardt and Martin Eckel and the International European Youth Championship (under age of 25) winners were Matthias Miller and Manuel Voight.
In Switzerland, Daniel and Beat Stegmeier won the Versoix Swiss Grand Prix and Martin and Erika Ingold won the Basler Läggerli.
In Germany, Hubert Merkelbach and Benedikt Wenk won the Zeller Untersee-Pokal at Radolfzell and Per Wilhelm and Nils Hollweg won the Bahnwaerter-Preis in Hamburg, Philipp Rotermund and Torn Huber took first place at the 2006 Star Cup.
In Austria, Franz Kloiber and Joerg Praxmarer won the Traunsteingams and Franz Kloiber won again at the Falkensteintrophy with crew Alexander Kogard.
In Finland, Jali Makila and Bosse Lamberg won the Open Finnish Championship and in the Netherlands, Uwe Hannemann won the Hollandia Trophy.
August North American Results
Senior sailors also had their own regatta in the NE of the United States. The New England Masters' Regatta was won by Bill Watson and Rodrigo Meireles. Bill Watson, sailing with Roger Sharp, also won the Ned Hay Trophy and Ron Sandstrom and Steve Braverman won the Sunapee Open.
On the Chesapeake Bay, Aaron Serinis and Chris Brown won the Annual One Design, and John MacCausland and Rick Burgess won the 80th Lipton Cup.
In Colorado, Tim Seeling won the Dillon Open.
In Canada, William Hendershot and Alain Vranderick won the Quebec Fleet Championship and Tim Stamper and Simon Troop won the Vancouver Island July Series.
