| Report by Rick Burgess: This years Chili regatta on Seneca Lake, the home of the up coming Western Hemisphere Spring Championships, was a great week-end of sailing and of course eating wonderful homemade Chile on Sunday. We had 20 boats from 6 different fleets all set to go on Saturday. This year the wind cooperated and out we went in a 15 to 20 southerly wind. It looked like it was going to be a battle between Brian Cramer of the new WLOC fleet and Kirk Reynolds. In the second race with Kirk close on the transom of Brian he caught a wave and rolled to weather, dipping the pole and we all know what came next, one broken mast. Just before the leeward mark the wind did a shut down and shifted 180 degrees, some were very happy and others, well, let's just say they were not as happy. The wind settled in and we had a very nice 3rd race before returning to the dock for the night. Sunday showed a repeat of Saturday and we sailed 2 really nice races. In the end it was Brian Cramer taking home the big trophy. A big thank you to our Race Committee, and to all who supplied the extraordinary chili that was served on Sunday. Top master was Will Hendershot and the top novice was Bob King. Seneca Lake Fleet looks forward to seeing you next spring when we get the opportunity to show the Star class our great little Yacht Club with some of the hardest working members any regatta organizer could ask for. |
