The 2009 Lake Sunapee Open attracted twenty eight boats from 10 fleets and one isolated competitor. The 44th year of the event saw two races completed in light winds. In the first race Arthur Anosov of the Seneca Lake Fleet led for most of the race. On the last beat 3 time winner John MacCausland and 6 time winner Ron Sandstrom of Boston Harbor closed in and passed Anosov in the last fifty yards, just ahead of Executive Director Barbara Vosbury in fourth and regatta chairman Dave Cook in fifth.

The second race was completed in even lighter winds. This time Anosov held off MacCausland the entire race. Western Hemisphere Youth Champion Tomas Hornos was close behind in third place, Barbara Vosbury fourth and Nat Cook of Sunapee fifth.
