| Report by Tom White: It was the 27th running of the “Chili Regatta”, which means, if you get home alive and breathing, you might be the winner!!! There was some nasty good Chili this weekend. The 2008 host club for the Western Hemisphere and last D-12’s Regatta for the 2009 season, had a 35% representation of both skippers and crews from the most recent 2009 North Americans in Westport, CT. It would go without saying, that the winds on Saturday - “Well it was 30 knots plus” said Arthur Anosov, District 12 Champ of 2009 with long lost crew, Dave Caesar, first overall in front of the 2008 District Champ Mark Passmore and the Star Class rear commodore Larry Scott. and third were Tom White and Jack Winthrop, of these three boats, 5 sailors were in the NAs! As Saturday began, and began and increased, and well, it just didn’t happen, due to well 25-30 knots at best, and by 1 p.m. we all found ourselves going around the wonderfull Finger Lakes and experiencing the many wines, sites and fun things to do that are offered here in Central New York. Then, Sunday, the big day, a nice 10-15 knots with a standard Seneca YC course “Up and Down” twice around, start and finish in the middle. The day ended with the annual Chili cook off, I think Rick Burgess won! Many honorable notes - Eddie Gardner first place youth crew, Abby White first place youth skipper, and John “Cheese” Chiarella won grand master. It was announced that the Northern Lake George Fleet will be hosting the “Northern Lake George Open” in 2010 the weekend after Labor Day. Mark your calendar for one of the most beautiful D 12 venues! Please remember, to take a junior sailor on a Star, with their hand on the tiller, and maybe you will help grow our passion!!!! |
