Saturday winds were SSW, 4-9, getting lighter as
the day progressed. There was light rain to
drizzle which kept
the majority of the ski boats and jet skiis off
the lake, making good inland lake sailing. After
the fourth race, the
wind died. Jack Rickard was leading after the
first day. Paw Paw Lake Yacht Club had a nice
dinner and blues
band for entertainment Saturday night. Sunday
morning broke with the passage of a cool front
that dried the air,
the skies gradually cleared, and added strength
to the breeze which started SW 8-12 and clocked
to WNW 10-15
by the end of the third and final race. The team
of Jack Rickard and John Corrigan were steadily
more consistent
than second place finishers Roger Turner and Tom
Belco. Always nipping at their heels was Glenn
McCarthy
with his daughter, Christina McCarthy, in third
overall. The racing was close with position
changes on nearly
every leg. The sailing on Paw Paw Lake, whose
yacht club dates to 1898 and fleet dates to
1932, was enjoyed by
everyone. In Photo: (L to R) 1st-Jack Rickard and crew John Corrigan; 2nd-Roger Turner and crew Tom Belco; 3rd-Glenn McCarthy and crew Christina McCarthy. |
