Fall Windup (TAYC)

For the last 58 years Star boats have been racing in the Choptank River of the Chesapeake, and this year 20 boats from the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 12th districts continued the tradition.

As has always been in the past the Tred Avon Yacht Club welcomed us with open arms and long time star boat racer and builder Richard Lippincott and his crew were ready to give us great racing.

On Saturday the wind was on the light side, but no question plenty to get in the three scheduled races. Race one saw Seneca Lakes Arthur Anosov/Dave Caesar win wire to wire. Race two Andrew Campbell/R J Cooper sailing their brand new P-Star winning also wire to wire, and race three the breeziest race of the day saw John Vanderhoff/Bob Schofield put it in high gear and also won wire to wire.

Saturday night the TAYC treated us to one of the finest dinners anyone could ask for, Steak & Crab Cakes. Richard showed a film from the 1951 Spring series on the Chesapeake and some footage from Nassau the same year. The newest Star in the film was 2917!!! It was entertaining watching the way they hiked back then!

Sunday morning brought a little more wind and a bit cooler.

Race four was won by Andrew & R J with J Mac close behind in 2nd. This won the series for Andrew as we got a throw-out after four races, but the sailing was so good he decided to sail the fifth just to enjoy the day. Race five was the windiest of the day, and lots of changes from 2nd on back, but Arthur & Dave showed the way and ended up 2nd over all.

TAYC provided us with an unbelievable hors D’oeuvres of crab imperial, chicken, oysters on the ½ shell, cheese, etc.
