True to summer form, the weather was light with 5 - 8 knot southerlies both days and the light air challenge further exacerbated by the complex tidal currents. Olympic PRO, Paul Ulibarri and his team did a great job setting races despite these challenges.

After day 1 Carl Buchan had a commanding lead, however after Carl there were several boats in contention for the next spots: including Dave Watt, Foss Miller, Fred Dill, and Tim Stamper basically deadlocked with Gord Galbraith and Brian Huse a few points back.

On Saturday evening the fleet enjoyed a great dinner and social at Malcolm Smith’s place overlooking Juan de Fuca Strait. Malcolm has been extremely active over the last several years promoting the fleet and working with Rick Peters to bring boats more and better up to British Columbia.

Sunday dawned very light. Despite this, Carl and Jamie Buchan held on to easily take first with 9 points and the Blue Star, Dave Watt and Mike Thompson sailed consistently to claim second with 15 points, Gord Galbraith and Dugald Smith came from behind with a 2, 1 to just eke out third (and the Green Star) over District Secretary Foss Miller and Stu Frost on a tiebreaker.

To all that attended, a big thank-you from the VI fleet! We are keen to travel to other fleets' events and look forward to welcoming you back to the island soon. Rumour has it VI fleet international sensation Richard Clarke may show up next time to give 1992 World Champion Carl Buchan a run for his money! English Bay is home to 1994 World Champion, Ross MacDonald, who may want to re-enter the fray too.
