| Racing for 100 years! At the "Erich F. Laeisz Prize" of 3-5. June 2011 at the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein club on the outer Alster Sea, twenty Star teams sailed for the coveted prizes. Winner of this 100th Birthday event for the keel boat were Felix Gold & Oliver Vitzthum, with Reinhard Schmidt) & Niels Hentschel second and Heiko Winkler & Uwe Thielemann finishing third. To mark the centennial anniversary of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association the organizers extended the annual "Laeisz Prize" of the the Hamburg and Luebeck Star boat fleets from two to three days. With fantastic weather and the typical rotating winds of 7-12 knots. the Alster sailors completed six races. On Saturday the wind was felt simultaneously from all directions, so race director Hans-Herbert Hoffmann, after three hours of "Hopes and Fears" delayed the races to Sunday. The race on Sunday compensated for this involuntary break. The "veterans" race, was won by Hans-Jurgen Bense & Herbert Braasch. As usual, the catering service left little to be desired: fish from the grill on Friday night at the clubhouse of the MSC on the Elbe and the traditional asparagus dinner on Saturday evening on the terrace of the NRV - a party which went on into the wee hours. Thus it was not important at the prize giving ceremony that the main prizes were missing and were engraved wrong ... |
