2012 Austrian Championship

Too little water, no wind, and what will happen this time?

Friday 14, September
The start was not promising, because on Friday there was no wind or race.

Saturday 15, September
Even Saturday started with waiting for the wind. At the first start time of 11 o'clock the Wörthersee was still smooth with only a light breeze. This is not good for the sailors, but pleases the rowers, on the lake at this time from Velden to Klagenfurt. From Dellach there were sailors who especially went out in motorboats, cheering the rowers enthusiastically. Many a person thinks, "it's not bad, being on the lake at the same time".

In the afternoon, finally came the trend to an east wind and the race starts. In the very first race it is not the teams from the Wörthersee that dominate but the guests. After leading, Weinreich / Seeger's victory in the first race instead went to Koechert / Bergthaler. Again in the second race they were way up front, but disqualified for being over early. The victory in this race goes to the defending champion Passeger / Kropfitsch. The day draws to a close and the wind is getting weaker, but a third race is completed with victory again for Kochert / Bergthaler, the team from Lake Traun. After three races, in the evening thesailors had delicious food at Zelli's guest Hausl, and all were again optimistic for wind.

So that nothing more might go wrong with the state championship, the first launch is set on Sunday at 07:30. Some find it to be a joke and complain that the lake and the club at this time in the morning can hardly be found at all for the mist. (But it was always a half hour later than the Traunsee).

Sunday 16th, September
At seven clock the club is already hectic and indeed, the race will take place on time. With a light west wind Koechert / Bergthaler are back in front of Passeger / Kropfitsch and increase their leadership. The wind is just enough that all participants reached the finish line, then went for breakfast in the club. Although the wind was really weak, the mood of the morning mist on the lake had its charms. First, it almost looks as if it was all just because of the east wind is slow in coming, but at noon it showed up. Two beautiful more races were run in constant wind. Wolfgang Kochert and Michael Bergthaler won the fifth race. In the sixth race they were hit by Julian Martin Kircher and Dittrich, but had a second place finish to end their sensational series at the Wörthersee. Four firsts and one second place earned them the Austrian Championshop. Second place overall went to the defending champion Passeger / Kropfitsch, and third were Kircher / Dittrich.

Carinthian fleet champions were Passeger / Kropfitsch before Kircher / Dittrich and Schlagbauer / Schlagbauer.

In the third attempt at completing a 2012 championship, it has now worked out and you can thank the Union Boat Club Dellach for their willingness to step in at the last minute to organize not only the Carinthian provincial championship, but also the state championship. Thank you for the successful event!
