Results for six races on Dec. 28, 29 and 30 at Nice, France.
Report by sailing-news.ch:
Day One: No sun and an afternoon with rain showers was the opening day of the Star Christmas Race at the Côte d'Azur. Two races were sailed in light winds, the second race had even to be shortened, and in both heats, Diego Negri/Sergio Lambertenghi ITA were the winners. They clearly lead the overall rankings ahead of Michel Vaucher/Didier Pfister SUI and Lorenz Zimmermann/Nils Hollweg SUI. The local favorites Xavier Rohart/Stéphane Pontre FRA are in 4th place (finishes of 10 and 4).
Day Two: Instead of the usual morning North wind, an unconstant shifty Westerly breeze dominated the race course on the Bay of Nice. Two races were sailed again with Diego Negri/Sergio Lambertenghi ITA adding a third bullet before they were defeated for the first time by Papathanassiou/Tsotras GRE in the fourth heat. The Greeks and Bailey/Bailey GBR at equal points occupy rank 2 and 3. Only one point behind are the French youngsters Martin and Rémi Tenconi FRA.
Day 3 report by Jean Francois Puissegur:
The North Thermic breeze raised as usual but a bit stronger than yesterday. 12 to 15 knots, perfect condition, no clouds in the Nice Sky. Except for the temperature being a bit cold we were close to “champagne sailing”. Two races were held as expected by race committee officer, Dominique Giorgi (also Nice fleet secretary.
Race 5:
In the first one, after two general recalls the race committee raised the black flag but without any damages on the third start attempt for the 33 starboats. It was a great fight between 3 Olympics team. Emilios took the best start at the pin end and secured his position until the end even if Diego came back close to the Greeks and forced them to enter into a match race in the last upwind leg until the end of the race. Xavier Rohart with crew Stephane Pontre managed to secure their third place. The rest of the fleet arrived in two packs not so far from the first three. That means that in this race everybody had the chance to play the game at his own level.
Race 6:
Once again, after a general recall, the race committee decided to raise the black flag. Only one boat was BFD, and Xavier and Diego took the best starts at the pin end. Diego tacked immediately to secure the right and arrived at the upwind mark with a comfortable lead ahead of French local sailors Terrol & Ferey and Astorri/Vongher from Viareggio. Diego extended his lead until the end of the race and claimed the 57th Nice Christmas regatta with 4 bullets in 6 races and a confirmation of his great season after his fourth place in Star Sailors League finals.
This year was a great edition, with 33 boats from 10 nations and a very high level regatta. We had the chance to be supported by SSL with live tracking and Virtual regatta team, we hope to build a 58th edition much more exciting in the same trend.
Hope to see you in 2014.
I wish you all an happy new year !
