Report by Massimo "Cicio" Canali: Rain and cold have welcomed the inauguration of the national star 2016 championship on Thursday 19, at the headquarters of the almost finished L.N.I. Mandello Lario. The planned practice race was canceled for lack of participation of the crews already given the very unfavorable weather. In the afternoon the President of the club and the sports director opened the championship with words of enthusiasm for the prestige of hosting such an important regatta in the year of the 50th anniversary of the birth of Mandello section. Precisely for this reason it was also combined the most important regatta that takes place here every year, the Carcano Trophy which, in the person of Federica Zelioli help by constant support to the longest-running trophy that counts among participants famous names like Danilo Folli, Alfio Peraboni, Pietro D'Ali ', Alessandro Pascolato. The morning of the 20th was another story. Sunny and warm to 22° welcome the first day of racing. Even a cloud is an excellent prerequisite for well prepared as possible for the start of the first race scheduled for 13:00. The square of the club fully of boats can only be pleased to racers and curious passers-by that and a large presence. We also saw some new "born" Folli home that touch the water for the first time, on the occasion of this important event. Leaving the race office you can see broad smiles in that, upon registration, the kindness of collaborators accompanied by a rich set of gadgets, including a jacket for each competitor, making more than justified the reduced registration fee. Exceptional sponsor for this event Raymarine that in addition to providing high-level awards, compasses tacktick, which is the official dealer, will offer support in the water with their prestigious boat. The three days of competition have allowed the execution of as many as 8 races. Unfortunately, despite the sun has accompanied all the races, the wind conditions were extremely variable. Mandello generally does not offer strong wind but still constant, while these days certainly has not offered the best of himself. Sudden and exceptional leadership jumps and intensity have continually reshuffled the competitors' positions in each side of the race course. Mitigated by a wonderful dinner on Friday evening at the nearby night club restaurant, all competitors were able to let our hair down in the Latin-American dance, the main entertainment of the structure. Prestigious names have come and gone in local waters as the winner, Roberto Benamati, former world champion, with his faithful crew Alberto Ambrosini. Certainly not least the Ligurian Diego Negri with bow our secretary of the district, Sergio Lambertenghi, then finished second. The Italian champion, the Trieste Danelon, who fought to the last to keep the title but the varying conditions have only seen the third. Besides these national talents, and international subsidiaries have given additional luster to Lake Como, as the Swiss champion Urs Hunkeler district in the bow with the champion, former Olympian, Enrico de Maria, the Ukrainian Gureyev and the German crew Rauch-Weise . The most "famous" presence is been to George "Dodo" Gorla who, during the award ceremony, handed over the first crew classified, the cup in remembrance of Alfio, his unforgettable friend and crew, missed almost five years ago, with which they reached the highest peaks of the world sailing. It can be stated that the impressions of the crews, the end of the event, were also very positive thanks to the organization of staff in water and on land, both for the race course for the logistics. We therefore hope to see you at the next event, the Trofeo Gini of 25 to 26 June, with the venue finished. |
