The event comes from a regatta of the Travemuende Week in the mid-80s, where the former commodore of NRV - Erhard Brinckman - acted as race director, but in the program booklet he was erroneously named "Bahnwaerter". The nickname "Bahnwaerter" solidified overnight and so emerged the Bahnwaerter regattas for Star boats and also the Dragon.

Since 1990, these Star races have had a participation of about 15 to 25 boats sailing on Lake Alster. Erhard was on the race committees for a long time himself, always with his cap and the personal announcement by the committee boat: "My Men, another 5 minutes until the start .... "!

After the death of Erhard the "Bahnwaerter Trophy" became known as the "Erhard Brinckman Gedaechtnis Trophy" for Stars in the foundation charter and is still colloquially as the "Bahnwaerter Prize".

Erhard made the event permanent, as well as Erich F. Laeisz prize, with Hamburg and Luebeck Star boat fleets interconnected.

For 2016, due to low entries, the NRV-office cancelled the Star boat regatta. This would have been the first cancellation in the more than 30 year history of event. On the intervention of the Star fleet, Andreas Christiansen (Chairman NRV) reversed the cancellation. The Stars wished to sail. Tradition and connectedness are more than numerical barriers. Sailors, race committee, volunteers and guests attended.

The early rejection, however, meant that firmly planned teams had in the meantime replanned to a sail free weekend, making other plans. Foreign Starboat guests gave up on coming. Ten boats were needed for a 2016 ranking regatta. So the harbor master of NRV became race director and the assistant team was made up of NRV members.

As always, Saturday night the Star Fleets of Hamburg and Luebeck invited all parties to dinner at the NRV. with nearly 40 participants and guests attending. Sunday we celebrated Wulf Kahl, who is active again after 8 years away from his Star. This was his 75th birthday, with cake - presented by the race team - and surrounded with all the participants.

In excellent weather - eight magnificent races were sailed in two days. Winners of the 27th edition of the event on the Alster was the Berlin / Hamburg team of Felix Gold and Oliver Vitzthum, followed by Jochen Diercks and Herbert Braasch, and third-placed Klaus Meyer and Joerg Mueller from Bremen.
