The WLOC Fleet hosted the 2016 12th District Championship this weekend. Friday night welcome party had burgers/chips for the competitors put on by one of the sponsors. Very nice.

Saturday was a glorious day with 5-6 kts to start and 7-9 at the finish of the third daily race. The results from race 2 and 3 were setting up the regatta finals with Finch/Caesar completing the day with 1 and 1.

Sunday was predicted to be more wind but as everyone gathered it did not look promising. However by the start of race 4 the harbour was experiencing a comfortable 10 kts and warm. Very warm. Two more races were completed in a building wind which took its toll on a couple of boats and certainly a few whisker poles. By the end of the 6th race the 12th District had a clear winner of this years’ Blue Star - John Finch and Dave Caesar. John won his first Districts in 1998 and it was fantastic to see him return to Star sailing.

One of the special parts of any District Championship is the awarding of the Green Star. These are the new champions of the region and the ones to watch in the future. This year Clarke Dhein with Tom White crewing won the latest Green Star. Congrats to Clarke, John Draper/Greg Poole (2nd Green Fleet) and Francis Fougere/Gord Anderson (3rd Green Fleet).
