Six Stars turned out for the three-day OCR regatta held March 18-20 at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, CA. The Stars correctly divined that no winds would blow fair on Friday the 18th; they pulled in after racing had been cancelled for the day and set up for Saturday.

Saturday began with light and variable winds and threatening skies, much like a continuation of Friday. Since Stars can move in light air, the race committee gave the Stars a start while the rest of the classes drifted back and forth. Astonishingly, the wind held and the Stars finished that race in freshening air. Will Stout with Darell Hiatt won the first race, establishing a standard that would persist.

The RC sent them back out for four more races, along with the other three fleets (Finns, Lasers, Laser Radials). The shifty winds and substantial swells made for an interesting day.
