Only 9 boats made it to the track but that didn’t stop the competition from being very high. Tomas Hornos and Josh Revkin dominated day 1 with 2 bullets, due in most part to local knowledge experience and an unfortunate OCS to rival Will Swigart and Brian Fatih who had a comfortable lead in race 2. All races were sailed inside Deer Isle as scouts reported back that there was in fact even less breeze outside in Broad Sound, than the 5-10 knots we had on the inside course. Lots of beers and laughs were had at the bar after racing as Peter Costa instructed everyone on the use of his newly invented “Barnacle Bucks.”

Day 2 saw similar conditions with the only wind in Boston Harbor being on the inside with a light Easterly. Now that all the local knowledge was sussed out, Will Swigart and Brian Fatih put on the clinic and won both the day’s races. There was plenty of battling otherwise with Steve Braverman, Ben Richardson and Ben Sternberg all vying for a podium finish. Again Peter Costa came through as social chair and invited everyone to his house for a great meal.

The last day again saw same conditions and again Will Swigart and Brian Fatih taking the bullet. But it wasn’t enough to overcome his first day scores which meant Tomas Hornos and Josh Revkin were 2014 District 1 champions. Had there been another race who knows the outcome.

Next year Districts will be in Milford, who is already hard at work to make it another successful event.
