District 13 Regatta Report | Sat Apr 8th, 2006 through Sun Apr 9th, 2006 |
It was a windy regatta ... |
| |
Report by Marko A. Hasche: More than 15 boats came to the Bad Zwischenahn Starboot Cup April 8-9 2006. On Saturday there was rain and wind for the start of the first race in 4 Bft., increasing to 6 Bft for the second race. One mast in the 2nd race was lost from number 7355 of Bremen's Michael Hein. For the 3rd race the wind was 4-5 Bft. and the sun was shining a bit. Hans-Werner Zachariassen, while leading the 3rd race, had problems with the jib and dropped out of the race. Temperature on Saturday was described as "very very ugly cold".
Standings Saturday after 3 races: Sunday was sunny and "only cold". At the start of the day's first (and only) race the wind was at 6 Bft constantly with gusts to 7 Bft (only 8 boats went out). We have never seen more Q-tacks (doing a tack rather than a jibe downwind) in a race. Again one mast came down in the 4th race of #8005 (Hamburg's Jürgen Paust). The regatta demonstrated some very impressive boat handling coming into the harbor on Saturday evening (including ours) and leaving the harbor Sunday morning was even more impressive. ( "=;-) while we and some others were having a second breakfast coffee.") |
