| Santa Barbara YC did another fabulous job of hosting the Star Class for the 85th Anniversary of the first Sir Thomas Lipton Star Trophy (won in 1923 by legendary Olympic gold medalist Owen Churchill). The visiting sailors were treated to terrific weekend weather and racing in 5 to 14 knots of breeze. Sunday's racing in 9 to 12 was as good as it gets, with constant lead changes and the necessity to keep tallying the points with almost every tack or jibe to see who was lining up to win the overall. At the end of five, Andy Macdonald and Brain Fatih prevailed at 11 points, with both Erik Lidecis/Mike Marzahl and Will Stout/Darrell Hiatt at 12. Fourth and fifth also went down to the tie-breaker, with Alejandro Bugacov prevailing over Steve Brown/Tim Ray. Awesome job, Santa Barbara YC!!!! |
