Chesapeake Lipton Trophy |
| |
| A sunny Saturday with light northwesterly breezes welcomed the annual running of the Chesapeake Bay Lipton Cup. This historic cup was given to Tred Avon Yacht Club by Sir Thomas Lipton and first awarded in 1926. Don Elliot and Doug Campbell jumped out to an early lead, which they held until the end of the last downwind leg. More breeze from the right side allowed John Vanderhoff and Adam Dolezal to edge by. The second race was a course 1 and the Vanderhoff/Dolezal team gained a substantial lead on the first reach leg and were able to maintain. On Sunday, the wind was from the Southwest in the 10 – 12 knot range. Bert Collins and John Morrison were the first to pick up a right shift and they held this lead for the race. Awards were presented at the “jacket and tie” party at Harleigh. It is a gala affair where trophy awards are given to log canoes, one design, and PHRF. Thank you Tred Avon Yacht Club hosts and race committee for supporting the Star class. |
