Regatta report by RGV Sports, Chile
The Vina del Mar sailors Rodrigo Zuazola and Robert Riegel were crowned the unbeaten winners at the South American Championship of the Star Class, which took place at the Yacht Club de Chile in the Garden City. This was the first time this championship has been sailed in Chilean waters.

Due to the sunny day, the wind abandoned the fleet on the last day of racing. The race officer, Pan American medalist in the Lightning Cristián Herman, delayed the first race on shore, and then waited until the end of the regulatory deadline. Unfortunately, the wind did not appear in the bay, which ended the championship, after completing five races.

So, even with the lack of wind on Tuesday, winners Riegel and Zuazola ended up in the water, but thrown in by their rivals as a celebration for having won the regional championship with five consecutive wins. Finishing second were the Argentines Daniel della Torre and Julián Barroso, with nine points. In third were the Tras Andeans Gerardo della Torre and Guillermo Latour with thirteen points, the same score as the Americans Claude Bonnani and Richard Burgess. Rodrigo Zuazola, despite his vast experience and proven ability, was surprised by his performance in this regatta. "Actually, I never thought that we could win like this, with only all first places. Before the regatta we did not think we would win. It was after the first day we started to sleep thinking that perhaps we could win." confessed the 51-year-old athlete and one of the most successful helmsmen of our country.

"We had a very good boat, well prepared, that handled high winds well. Besides, sailing with Robert now for two years we are a good crew. Knowing the sailing area also helps because it lets you navigate with more confidence. Being a local sailor does not ensure success, of course, but you have a much smaller margin for error in a known area," said Zuazola, twice world champion in the Lightning (1987 and 1995), 3rd in the Cup Rey (Ocean Yacht) in Spain in 2005 and currently ranked No. 44 in the world in the Star.

Zuazola will not have much time for rest or celebration. Next week he will leave for the Regata Entel PCS Norte for ocean yachts, as helmsman of the yacht "Entel PCS”, one of the favorites.
