2003 Chile regatta Brad Anderson LOC WINS by Rick Burgess With hurricane Isabel forecast to come right thru the Finger Lakes region of New York State the organizers of the Chile regatta postponed the start of the regatta until 2:00 PM on Saturday. This was done so sailors did not have to drive on Friday in what could have been very dangerous conditions. Fifteen sailors were entered and the racing got going around 2:30 Saturday afternoon. The breeze was in the 10 to 12 range from the west. It’s always fun to sail in a westerly on the inland lakes as you never give up as the wind can and will shift. We got in two races on Saturday and were hoping to get in another three on Sunday. Going into Sunday Steve Haarstick and Jeff Schuhardt were tied for first. Sunday morning arrived and a beautiful southerly was blowing, raising the hopes that we were going to have great racing. Oh well so much for all of the optimism as the wind started dieing on the second beat. As we came to the finish line it was almost calm but Brad Anderson of LOC won the race and the regatta with Rick Burgess Sr. 2nd in the race which tied him with Schuhardt and Cramer for 2nd overall. With the tie breaker Burgess ended up 2nd, Schuhardt 3rd and Cramer 4th. |
