The Trophee du Leman was sailed out of Club Nautique de Versoix, on Lake Geneva. Three races were held, all in very light thermals. Guenter Tscheslock and Martin Ritsche of Germany were the surprise winners in this light wind Swiss Grand Prix regatta in Versoix. In the three races on Saturday with conditions of 1-2 Beaufort north wind the Bodensee crew used their new sails and a light crew weight to show the best speed, winning two races. Rico Gregorini and Daniel Christian started well in each race but a moderate wind shift and small tactical mistakes put them back at the finish. Guenter Tscheslock it is not only a member of the board of the YC Radolfzell but also secretary of the international Melges 24 Class and has taken part in other Grand Prix racing. After the winter weather at the Grand Prix race in Silvaplana we returned again to a shorts and shirt series in high-summer weather, which - like always in Versoix - was accomplished by an excellent organization. The final race was on Sunday, but with only 1 Beaufort of wind strength the race could not be completed. It is also remarkable that two English crews found the way to Lake Geneva and they are planning to take part in the Grand Prix series this autumn in Switzerland: The Grand Prix idea and the exemplary class management of the Swiss is bearing fruit. |
