Royal Victoria Yacht Club and the Vancouver Island Star Fleet hosted a great District 6 Championship Regatta under hot and sunny skies. The pre-regatta anticipation was raised Friday afternoon when a 35+ knot squall came through, but the racing on Saturday was held in a light eastely for the first race and a 5-8 knot southerly for the the second and third races after a two hour postponement. Sunday brought the southerly again in the 5-8 knot range except for the last race when the wind picked up to 12 knots and the race committe did a great job of setting a very narrow course to provide for lots of tacking action in close quarters to the rocks and other Stars. Great fun! The regatta was decided by the last race with Richard Mundell and his crew Matt Dilay winning the Blue Star. The Masters was won by Foss Miller, the Grand Masters by Fred Dill and the Green Star by Dennis Burgess. |
