Vancouver Island Star Fleet Championships

Location: Baynes Channel off Victoria, B.C. Conditions: 15-20 kts, with gusts to 25 kts, 2 foot chop, sunny skies. 5 races of an 8 race series sailed prior to abandonment. Fantastic blustery conditions met the VI Fleet for our 2004 Fleets. Recent District 6 Champs, Rich Mundell and Matt Dilay, in 6560 (an old Buchan) beat Fleet Captain, Malcolm Smith and his brother Dugald, in 5548 (an older Buchan) by one point to win the regatta. Dave Burden and Bryn Barker were third. In survival conditions, which included sustained surfing and huge weather rolls, sadly we lost 2 D-sections.
