2004 District 9 Championship

Henrik Dannesboe and Ramis Fayzullin are the 2004 Champions of the 9th District

The 2004 Championship of the 9th District took place September 10-12 on Lake Annecy. Twenty one teams from various fleets in Switzerland and France took part and discovered the pleasure of sailing on one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe.

Sailing on Lake Annecy
Friday, three races were run with a wind of 6-12 knots. The 3rd race was decisive for the championship results when young (18 years) Martin Tenconi lost all chance of winning the regatta by having an OCS. Even three first place finishes in a 5 race regatta were not enough for him to overcome this handicap. Then it was necessary to wait for the last leg of the last race when the dying wind rearranged the fleet a few dozen meters from the finish.

On Saturday, 2 races were finished in the same wind strength as Saturday and brought the Berenguier father and son team up near the top of the standings with their consistent finishes while confirming the leadership of Henrik Dannesboe and Ramis Fayzullin. That evening a dinner was provided by the Savoie Fleet on the floating restaurant "Le Libelule" which let the teams get to know each other better. The top sailors were to bed early while other teams stayed on late into the night.

Sunday the weather had changed, with therain and lack of wind leading to the cancellation of racing. The placings from Saturday stood with Switzerland and France dividing the four top places.

The Championship also saw some old Stars out sailing, which have been restored at Annecy by the l’Association les Vieux Safrans, such as Star #969 dating from 1933.
