The Trofeo Bracciano is among the national level regattas of greatest importance and with the longest tradition for the Olympic Star class, always attracting Star sailors with the pleasant climate and helpfulness that always distinguishes this event.

Taking part in this regatta since 1981 have been a number of Italian and foreign teams of high level such as the Star World Champions Roberto Benamati and Enrico Chieffi, the Olympian Pietro D’Ali, the Star European Champion Silvio Santoni, and Spanish Olympian Jose Maria Van der Ploeg. In 1985 the regatta was also the Italian Star Class Championship and was won by the present skipper of the America’s Cup Luna Rossa, Francesco DeAngelis.

In 1994 Tino Straulino honored the friends of the Associazione Velica di Bracciano with a greatly appreciated gift, his participation in the regatta. "The regattas on the lake are always beautiful, because they are the most challenging. The wind dances, the waves are short and it is always a pleasure to come here," Straulino said in an interview of that period done by Fare Vela.

The 1994 regatta brought the first win of the Trofeo Bracciano by Enrico Chieffi, Star World Champion in 1996. With 4 wins to date, Chieffi holds the records of victories at Bracciano.

The three days of the 2005 regatta with 30 teams had unusual wind for this time of year on Lake Bracciano. On Friday it blew up to 20 knots, on Saturday the Mistral brought more of the 20 knots, a condition that lasted into Sunday, with gusts then to 24 knots. In these conditions there was a duel between Salani-Lillia and Bruni-Nobili for the final victory which was sealed by Bruni-Nobili by just one point in the final race.

Francesco Bruni, the Italian Olympic representative at Athens 2004, thus won the Blue Star, an honor of the ISCYRA to the champion of the 14th district which includes Italy and Greece. Particularly moving for the Star sailors was the trophy presentation in which Signora Marzia Straulino Volterra, daughter of Agostino Straulino, presented the trophy.
