| The winners of the 20th edition of the Coppa Tito Nordio were, for the first time, a team from the local Trieste fleet, Gianfranco Noè of the Yacht Club Adriaco and Sandro Ulcigrai of the Società Triestina della Vela. A little uncertainly characterized the first day’s racing. The first start was postponed from 13.00 to 15.30 when wind of about 12 knots arrived. It was necessary to go to the black flag to succeed with the start. First and second in the race were local boats, the team of Distefano – Orioli followed by Noè – Ulcigrai. On the second day there was no sailing to do in a day without wind and a cloudy sky. Race committee head Ezio Fonda delayed leaving shore until it seemed like there might be enough wind to start the 3rd race. However, the wind retreated and at 15;00 the committee abandoned trying to start and towed the boats back to shore. In the evening the yacht club provided a dinner party for the participants and their guests. Entertainment was a slide show of the first day’s racing by Andrea Carloni. On the third day it was possible to finish all the remaining races in the regatta in the area off Castello di Miramare. The first start was at 11.00, but the borino wind, which had been strong, changed from its westerly direction causing a realignment of the starting line. In the first race the winners were the Trieste team Noè/Ulcigrai, follwed at a distance by Distefano/Orioli. In the 2nd race a decrease in the wind slowed the Stars and lengthened the duration of the race, putting at risk the start of the 4th race and thus the possibility of the teams being able to discard their worst finish. However, the race was run and at the finish, the first boat was again Noè/Ulcigrai, which consolidated their win of the regatta. |
