It’s a family affair!

We were in Oxford Maryland for the 87th running of the Chesapeake Bay Lipton Cup and what a beautiful weekend it was.

It was very exciting to see Caroline McNeil, Robert Emmet and Sarah Price on the race course with their dads and of course dad Read Beigel crewing for daughter Laura.

New to Stars this year Schuyler Benson made a decent showing for his first event given that he was in charge of the whole Oxford Regatta and had to work on Sunday and not sail!

All in all it was a great showing of good friends and fun people for the event.

Saturday’s forecast of light winds out of the East was blown out by a front that came through Friday night. The first race was a northerly breeze on Course 4. The breeze kept backing until Race 2 started at a course of 324 degrees (yep 324, that’s what we love about Richard Lippincott’s PRO work!). Race 3 was started at 319 degrees and as another thunderhead passed to our south it backed all the way to 290 for the last leg. Race three was spotty and shifty and the Race Committee did a great job of trying to keep up with it.

Sunday it was bleak…..overcast and not a zephyr in sight. The Race Committee towed us all out to the Choptank and we had a very nice social hour waiting for the breeze to come up. It finally did but was even more spotty and shifty than Race 3. We managed (barely) to get two legs in and then we were towed home.

It was good close racing with a lot of tied scores. Congratulations to Tom Price and daughter Sarah for winning the Lipton Trophy.

Other awards presented for the weekend include:

J. Graham Johnson Memorial Cup
