Report by Rick Beurgess:
Seneca Yacht Club, Geneva NY.
For each season there is a beginning and end. For the seasons in the northeast, we burn our socks in the spring and go to Seneca Yacht Club for the Chili Regatta in the fall. Always great racing and finishing with a potluck chilli dinner on sunday afternoon. Fantastic fun and a great way to wrap up the 12th District racing for each year. This regatta tradition was started by Bob Wescott at the Seneca Yacht Club close to 25 years ago and he continues the tradition every year.
For 2015, the event collected sailors from 6 different fleets which makes for a fun time catching up with all the local activities during the summer.
On Saturday, the competitors woke up to a grey day with 15 - 18 kts of wind, a little rain and great waves from the south. Some found the conditions a little trying and stayed on shore, some found various parts on their boats lacking but Arthur Anasov and Dave Caesar completed the day with a perfect score in the 3 races closely followed by Mike Phinney and Mark Strube. Tired muscles and bones were soothed Saturday night at the steak dinner put on by Rick Burgess at his Seneca Lake compound. A big rain storm chased all the campers back to their tents to insure a dry spot and a good nights sleep.
Sunday was bright and sunny with 6 - 8 kts from the north, shifty and tricky. Race 1 was closely won by Mike and Mark. Race 2 was trickier and we all got to watch Lauren Barth and her father (as crew) put on a clinic to win by a large margin. It was a great moment when every competitor made a big cheer at the dock for this team from Lake George.
Finishing in 6th overall was Bryan Milne and Luke Morton from the WLOC Fleet. This was Bryan
