This year the Boston Harbor Star Fleet decided to host a tune up clinic for all Star sailors new and old, to be called the Brown Star and to be held at Cottage Park Yacht Club.
7 boats showed up on Saturday morning from 3 different fleets, Narragansett Bay (NB), Cape Ann (CA) and of course Boston Harbor (BH).
Thanks to the idea and motivation from Greg Gahlinger and Steve Braverman, this clinic was largely a success and a fun weekend spent with Star sailors of every experience level.
Saturday started out with lots of rigging and tuning on the dock plus a long chalk talk with myself trying to give everyone some useful tips. I covered lots of the theory behind the tuning and boathandling techniques required to go fast and also keep the mast in the boat. The group had really good questions and I feel that everyone came away with a better understanding of this complicated boat.
Saturday on the water was great with a blustery 10-18 which started out strong but then settled and allowed for some nice windward leeward races after some upwind speed drills. Luckily I had a little powerboat to take some behind the boat photos in order to illustrate some of the sail set up techniques I had talked about earlier. The fleet then sailed in and hauled out, which then meant we were ready to head over to Peter Costa
