Far in advance I was able to follow the efforts that the Salzburg Mozart fleet undertook to make this event wonderful: planning regattas, finding prices, putting together a menu for Saturday, thinking through the hygiene concept and ensuring that the club was in charge shape.
On Thursday I can already see the well-traveled from the Czech Republic (Sterba, Fetterle, Maier, Kramar) and Germany (Helmsing, Merkelbach, Fritz) arrive. The harbor and the club area had obviously been emptied by hard-working helpers from the UYCWG to make room for 30 (!) Registered starlings; I see the evening sneaking out with registration and measurement - that is how the day started on Friday. First I mingle with the people while eating sausages (especially with the new caretakers Stiboller, Köller, Schlagbauer), hear the greeting from the captain of the fleet, listen to the helmsman's meeting with Hans Wolfgang and then it should finally start ... calm!
In the afternoon I still watch two races into the evening hours. There were only a few anomalies here - only the large dispersion of the wind direction with different complications for the actors and leaders on the water. In the evening I meet “German tables”, “Carinthian tables” and “Czech tables” in the various localities and restaurants, which then gradually grow together and give me a lot of sailing Latin ... which is not what you get from the sailors of the starlings hear gets ... unbelievable but true!
Saturday shows me a rather calm water and thus long and (from the previous evening!) Tired faces among the sailors. In good time I recognize the onset of a west-northwest and set off out onto the lake. Three races are being sailed and I hope to be back in the port in time for the sailors' meal. Today's races are throwing the list of results clearly upside down - I can see that those who have registered their claims are now also climbing forward; only Hans Spitzauer and Bezzi Nehammer show a clear series in the first 5 races with four first and one second place in the first two days.
Sunday starts immediately with the west-northwest. so that the planned start time of 10:00 a.m. could almost be kept. On the lower half of the lake with the race area I find a lot more wind with a steadily building wave and the unspeakable spherical gusts ...
This situation creates a good mix of these when looking at the results list in the 6th, 7th and 8th races .
As a special feature of this regatta day, I note a series from Merkelbach
/ Weise with three first places and a proper sales requirement due to material wear on five masts and two main sails.
Ultimate observations of the invisible from the last row:
- Winner of the Fakenstein Trophy:
1. Spitzauer / Nehammer 8529
2. Meyer / Jacub 8374
3. Merkelbach / Weise 8446
- valuation of the Austrian state championship:
1st gold Spitzauer / Nehammer 8529
2nd silver Kloiber / Müller 8508
3rd bronze Raudaschl / Fischer 8310
- U-30 valuation wins Daniel Fritz with Marcel Beltz
- Salzburger Landesmeister Kloiber / Müller
- the best helmswoman and winner of the Condor challenge award is Future Star Julia Müller
- best crew member Hermine Schlagbauer-Wadl
With these superlatives I will definitely be back at the Falkenstein Trophy next year and everyone - who is a star boat his own knows - should follow my call to the Wolfgangsee!
