The 2021 Lake George Open was hosted by the Northern Lake George Star Fleet on July 31 and August 1, 2021. Day 1 offered light and shifty winds presenting tricky and unpredictable conditions. In Race 1, it looked like the Krahulik brothers were about to walk away with the race on the second upwind beat before sailing into a hole and allowing the Escalara father/daughter team to pass to leeward and rounding the weather mark in the lead and they held onto the lead to the finish line.
A waning breeze in Race 2 offered quite a challenge and tested everyone’s patience. Husband/wife team Tracey and John Barth led across the finish line with team Escalara close behind. The Krahulik brothers miraculously worked their way through the fleet coming from dead last to fourth.
Although the fleet left the dock on Day 2, ultimately there was not enough wind to even sail out of the yacht harbor.
It is noteworthy that the first six finishers were comprised of family Star crews whether husband/wife; father/daughter; father/son or blood brothers. A special thank you to the Rowan Family for underwriting the event and hosting our Saturday night steak dinner.
