Another great regatta in the books!
The Star District 2 Championship sponsored by Charles Schwab saw no races on Saturday due to lack of air but saw some pristine weather Sunday complimented by great racing.
The day started off light with a SE breeze coming off the St. Michaels shore on Eastern Bay. The sides seemed to be favored and current was swirling through the course. We saw a great race with St. Michaels own WIll Murdock taking the first gun and earning some blue chevrons! Reigning district champ Tom Price sailing with his daughter Sadie Price took second, with myself and Ned Foster barely edging out another blue star, Aaron Serinis sailing with Adam Dolezal for third.
Race two saw the breeze staying E/SE and building to a solid 10 knots with some variance. I was too deep to see what was happening in the front but wasn't surprised to hear that John MacCausland and new to the district Brian Terhaar took the gun. Second went to the overall winner of the regatta Ben Sternberg and Valentin Veytsman who had speed all day. Third was Schuyler Benson and Andrew Parish who were also fast for the regatta. Fast seemed to be the theme of the event with a few boats finding the extra gear when they needed it.
The final race the breeze was up and with everyone over the sides. No big shifts just a fast and steady race with Sternberg/Veystman walking out away from a tight group at the top to finish with a sizable lead. MacCausland/Terhaar took second and in third was the now reigning and first time blue star champion Jim Ryan who sailed with Arthur Anosov.
Big congratulations to Ben and Val for having some great speed all day and playing the fleet just right with 10 points after three races to take the regatta!
Another big congratulations to the newest blue star in District 2, Jim Ryan. Jim and Arthur took 2nd overall on the day but were the top D2 team winning a tie breaker with Schuyler and Andrew both with 15 points meaning the 2nd and 3rd place boats finished with a 5th place average on the regatta. This just goes to show the level of racing that was sailed this weekend! Jim has been a big part of the MES star fleet and it is a great win for him and the fleet.
Thank you to all who traveled and thank you Bucky Buchannan, Tim Paris, the MES Star Fleet, and the Miles River Yacht Club for hosting a stellar event.
