REGATTA REPORT

Eight teams convened for the 99th anniversary of

one of the oldest west coast trophies continuously awarded for the Star Class. Unofficial
polls indicate this is one of the prettiest Southern California venues for star
sailing and this weekend the sun shone brightly on the shores of Santa Barbara.

Saturday was picture perfect with four races sailed 7 – 12
knots of southwesterly breeze. Sunday the
wind took a breather, but we managed three races in 3-5 knots. Racing was tight at the top with Ian
Trotter/John Rudderham (SDYC), Nick Madigan/Mark Strube (NHYC) and Jim
Buckingham/Phil Toth (NHYC) all within several points after Saturday. After some light air challenges Sunday, Nick
Madigan/Mark Strube prevailed with Buckingham/Toth in second and
Trotter/Rudderham third.

As always SBYC welcomed us with their trademark hospitality.
Post-race beer, wine, snacks, and a pasta buffet on Sunday were enthusiastically
consumed. Long time Santa Barbara Star
Fleet member Fred Hayward hosted the fleet at his nearby home for dinner
Saturday night.

next year as we plan to hold the 2023 District 5 Championships on the 100th
anniversary of Star boats in Santa Barbara next summer! See you there!!
