Star Class Honoring the Past, Leading the Future
District One Championship was held in conjunction with the Ted hood Regatta at the Eastern Yacht club in Marblehead MA August 16-18. We had 10 boats sailing in winds ranging from 5 to 12 knots with lumpy seas on Friday/Saturday and no sailing on Sunday due to lack of breeze.
Stephen Braverman with crews Mark McDermott & Fletcher Boland dominated the event with four firsts in the five races. His long time crew Ron Rezac unfortunately got sick at the last minute and Steve had to pick up crew, and it did not slow him down. He attributed the win to the years spent tuning/learning/sailing with Ron even thought he was not there.
Second place was Josh Phypers/ Fritz Koopman who had displayed great speed with his new sails. Third overall was Bill Watson/Scott Scheffer, They also won the exalted grand master trophy showing that age is only a number.
The Green Star trophy and the most important, was awarded to Cindy Olsen and Jonathan Shore. They showed good speed all weekend and once again Cindy has been putting a lot of time effort into her program and it has paid off.
Thank you to Storm Trysail/Eastern/Corinthian Yacht clubs for organizing, holding and running race committee for us. The Star Class will be back at this event.
