Star Class Honoring the Past, Leading the Future
Author: Rachele Vitello - June 04, 2024A successful season for the International Star Class in 2024 continues this week with the Star European Championship in Attersee, Austria, following a successful Western Hemisphere Championship.
Sixty teams will be on the starting line tomorrow for the first two races of the event. The level of competition is high, with several past Continental champions in the fleet, promising a week of thrilling races. Among the participants, there are nine teams with sailors under the age of 30, showcasing the emerging talents in the sailing world.The picturesque setting of Attersee, in the Austrian Alps combined with challenging wind conditions, will provide an exciting backdrop for the championship.
The event will feature eight races over five days, with two races scheduled per day until the reserve day on June 9th. Highlighting the fleet are the past Continental champions who bring a wealth of experience and skill to the competition. Their presence will undoubtedly elevate the level of racing and provide a benchmark for the younger competitors.The event is hosted by Union Yacht Club Attersee, which has a long-standing tradition in Star Sailing and a great under 30 project called Future Stars Austria.
The warm hospitality of the local community, combined with the club’s excellent facilities, promises an unforgettable experience for all participants, that has already been tested by some sailors at the 17th District Championship that has just finished last weekend, and it served as a pre Europeans.
Racing starts tomorrow, June 5th, two races per day are scheduled until Saturday, June 8th, when the winners of the 2024 Star European Championship will be crowned. This championship not only provides a platform for elite sailors to showcase their skills but also aims to inspire the next generation of sailors.

An idillic location, a pictoresque alpine lage sorrounded by green mountains, yet, after two days there is still no race in the scorecard of the 60 participating teams. Let's hope tomorrow, day three is the good and things can get started in Attersee.
The mood ashore is still high, as the organizers make everyone feel very welcome and the social schedule is incredible. Austrian dinner is in plan for tonight, good food, good music and typical outfit are on the menu.

The unfortunate weather conditions are blocking the wind on lake Attersee from different front and it will be hard to achieve the four races you need to assign the Silver Star and the European title. The Race Committee is far from giving up and tomorrow first start is set at 7 am to try and catch some breeze create by a possible storm passing over Attersee overnight. Let's keep our fingers crossed, the organizers at Union Yacht Club Attersee deserve this as they have put such a great effort in this event, taking well care of everyone ashore.
Author: Rachele Vitello - June 09, 2024Unfortunately the Star European Championship ends in Attersee, Austria, with no race finished by the 60 team-fleet. Two races attempt over four days that had to be abandoned for the wind never collaborated this week among the beautiful Austrian Alps.
A real pity as the Attersee Fleet celebrated its 75th Anniversary this year and with Union Yacht Club Attersee they put up a great show, such warm hospitality and everybody went home happy to have been here, even with no sailing.
