2025 SilberStar Regatta: The German “Fritz” Triumph Amidst Alpine Traditions
The legendary SilberStar Starboat Regatta returned to Lake Tegernsee from July 12–13, 2025, bringing together 14 to 15 elite teams from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The weekend delivered a thrilling head-to-head battle between the leading crews, primarily decided during four intense races on Saturday in North-Westerly winds reaching 3 Beaufort. Team Daniel Fritz and Lukas Huber from the Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC) emerged victorious, finishing with 4 net points (1/2/7/1). They narrowly defeated Christopher Opielok and Moritz Spitzauer (YCAT/NRV), who also finished with 4 points but lost the tie-breaker as Fritz crossed the line first in the decisive final race. While the overall event win went to the CYC team, Christopher Opielok secured the prestigious 2025 Alpen Cup (Alpenpokal) series title. This series, which aggregates results from the Maibock (CYC), the Spring Prize (MYC), and the SilberStar (YCAT), concluded with Opielok receiving the traditional trophy—a large rock crystal. Beyond the competitive racing, the event was defined by the region's vibrant social traditions, including the Tegernsee Seefest on Thursday and the famous Wald Fest (Forest Festival) on Friday, where sailors and their families gathered in the woods for local celebrations. The hospitality continued at the clubhouse with "Einlaufbier" and lard bread on the sunny terrace, followed by a celebratory Italian dinner. Despite an attempt to race on Sunday, the wind died out during the second beat, leaving the Saturday standings as the final result of a successful weekend managed by Ewald Köstler the former Fleet Captain and his great team of Yacht Club am Tegernsee
