This annual regatta was again held on the home waters of the Gull Lake Star Fleet. 30 skippers and crews vied for the coveted Gold Wreath in light conditions. The winds only provided for the completion of four of the scheduled eight races. All finishes counted toward the overall scores; there was not a throw out in final overall scoring.
This year’s overall winners were Luke Lawrence and Mohammed Asif. This team scored consistently as a top ten finisher in each race. All sailors were challenged in each race by flukey, shifty winds. Luke and Asif always kept the boat in the wind and on the chine.
Second place went to Lars Grael and Marco Lagoa. This team also scored consistently in the top 10 and finished seven points behind the first place boat.
This event is well known for its social events. The opening night was once again at the Gilmore Car Museum, where everyone had the opportunity to drive a restored classic. Our third evening together brought us to the brisket and chicken barbeque complimented with a fish fry of regional perch. The Awards Banquet on Saturday featured an upscale Football Saturday Tailgate event. The dancing after the awards went until the band had to go home.
Another fun time for all participants, families and guests.
