Austrian Centennial Regatta

June 11 - 13, 2011

DISTRICT: 17

Sailed on the Attersee, Austria.

This year the usual Star-Pfingstregatta was used instead to mark the hundredth anniversary of the class as the anniversary event “Centennial Star”. There was non-anniversary moderately behaved wind and weather: Partly cloudy with wind lacking which put the participants of the 25 boats from Germany and Austria to the test.

On Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning attempts at starts were made. After a short time of sailing, the wind was gone and the rain stopped.

On Sunday around 15:00 clock, the sun looked out from behind the clouds and a light northeast wind came up. The race committee was quick to respond and at 16:00 the first race started. With winds 4-8 knots , four races were completed, going into the early evening.

The Germans Hubert Merkelbach / Uli Seeberger won two of the four races and finished second once, providing a clear winner. Tied in points for second were the 69-year, multiple state champion Albert Sturm with his crew Claus Fischer, and the young stars of the class Florian Felzmann with Martin Lux (both not yet 20 years old). The young ones took second on the countback from the old masters.

Friday late afternoon the guests were welcomed by Austrian Blasmusik and on Friday and Saturday morning Speckjause was served by Star-Mami Christa Lux. The whole event was organized and managed by Gunther Lux so he could not sail himself. Saturday night the Attersee Fleet gave DINNER with Jazz-Band
